Lived experience. Trusted support. Stronger communities.
Kinara envisions communities where people experiencing homelessness are not only supported, but valued as leaders, partners, and professionals in creating solutions.
We believe lasting change begins with trust. By meeting people where they are, building authentic relationships, and providing compassionate, low-barrier support, Kinara helps people navigate the path toward housing, stability, and greater independence.
Turning lived experience into leadership
People who have experienced homelessness understand the barriers, setbacks, and strengths involved in rebuilding stability. Kinara recognizes that lived experience as professional expertise.
Through our Peer Support & Community Engagement Program, we aim to create dignified employment opportunities for people with lived experience while strengthening support for unhoused and recently housed community members. Peer Support Specialists will help people:
- Connect with housing, health care, benefits, and other essential services.
- Prepare for and attend important appointments.
- Navigate applications and documentation.
- Build confidence, self-advocacy, and practical coping skills.
- Maintain stability after securing housing.
Equity is central to our vision
Homelessness does not affect every community equally. Kinara is committed to addressing racial and structural inequities by centering people whose voices are too often excluded from the systems intended to serve them.
We envision a model in which peer professionals receive fair compensation, meaningful training, supportive supervision, and opportunities to grow. Their expertise also helps shape services, strengthen partnerships, and improve the way communities respond to homelessness.
The future we are building
Our vision is a future where:
- Housing is attainable.
- Support is compassionate and human-centered.
- Lived experience is respected and rewarded.
- People can access help without judgment or unnecessary barriers.
- Those most affected by homelessness have a meaningful role in leading change.
When communities invest in people, relationships, and shared leadership, pathways to stability become stronger for everyone.
Help bring this vision to life
Building this future requires community. Your contribution can help Kinara expand peer-led outreach, create dignified employment opportunities, and connect more people with housing and supportive services.
